Freedom Hill wines derive their name from the fact that the vineyards overlook the legendary Victor Verster Prison (now Drakenstein Prison), where Nelson Mandela took his first steps to freedom - thus heralding a bright new era for our country.

The first vines were planted in 1998, and once production began trophies, medals and high Platter ratings became synonymous with the estate. Only hand-selected grapes from vineyards on the farm are used for the wines. To guarantee that every wine reaches the peak of perfection, all the wines are matured for between 12 and 24 months in oak barrels. A small production of 16 000 cases per year ensures attention to detail.
